Gifts for friends

DSCF9198

I took a couple of hours to make some gifts for friends this weekend. I have had this idea vaguely in my head for a couple of weeks and then last night the idea pretty much took over and I couldn't do anything else. Seriously. We're leaving on vacation tomorrow so I knew I wanted to get something finished and in the mail for these girls, but I still had laundry going, and packing to do, and even some more shipping to do before we leave...so what do I do, obsess over these little things until about 5:00 am! Yep, I told you the idea totally took over. Anyway, I have to tell you how incredibly special to me that this image is. I was almost hesitant to use it, you see my Mom and I own the only image of this in all the world. My great, great aunt was an absolutely amazing artist and this was one of her paintings. All of her work was this beautiful, and we're lucky to have a few of her pieces, but this one is my absolute favorite. I'll tell you more about her tragic life and show you some of her other work another time.

My idea was to create this beautiful petitie paperie. I wanted to include some of my favorite bases for creating combined with some beautiful images and trims, but I wanted it all to be combined into a pretty folder.

So pretty much the entire thing is decorated with vintage papers, lace, and trims, and even hand glittered in spots.

This is what was inside the pocket and clipped to the folder. I love how this turned out. This one is for a dear friend  who has been through a lot lately and I just wanted to send her a little love. I hope she will love it and feel cheered a little.

While the last one was soft and more elegant, this one is a little brighter and playful. It's a belated birthday gift for another dear friend. Same concept, but different colors and images. I created this one using a vintage hankie and some vintage trims.

Love the adorable vintage coaster I clipped on here, it's just begging for all of these goodies to be played with!

DSCF9205

The blank cards for playing with are pretty much the same as the other one, but I also included a little vintage flocked gingham fabric and a vintage posie.

DSCF9208

And this is a little snippet of her birthday card that I need to get finished so I can get all of this in the mail in the morning. I really hope these sweet girls will enjoy their petite paperie folders and will have fun playing with them. My mind is spinning with other themes and colors I want to create these in so I definitely see those in my shops near future!

We're leaving tomorrow for a week in the mountains. I'm so looking forward to some play time with my family and yes, some uninterupted craft time for me. You can bet my sewing machine will be tucked away in my camper! LOL  Who does that, right?

I hope you all had a wonderful 4th filled with good times and family! Talk to you soon!

More recent finds....

DSCF9150

We're still working on things here, but I thought I would show you a few more photos of some recent finds. In early June we took a long weekend and went to visit Washington DC. Along the way we stopped at a few antique shops and it turned out that I found quite a bit of millinery on this trip! Yeah! It's not always the easiest thing to find around here, so I'm always happy when I do find it. The basket in this photo is actually a vintage doll layette! The inside is lined with a wonderful pinky-taupe colored silk, and the bottom has a little stuffed pad also in the same silk. So sweet. I found this in Roanoke, VA. Whenever we travel through VA I always try to stop at the Roanoke Antique Mall. It is a large antique mall with some really lovely booths and I always find things I have to have there!

DSCF9152

This is a lovely hat I bought just for the roses and all of the white flowers are part of some kind of bridal head piece I'm sure. The roses will need a little steaming and then they will come back to life beautifully. The bridal headpiece is FULL of tiny white flowers.

DSCF9154

DSCF9159

This is a close up shot of another hat I found and will use only for the flowers. Lovely velvet, silk, and organza blooms cover this hat in the sweetest shade of faded lavender. I am not always a fan of lavender even though it was my favorite color when I was growing up, but this faded lavender color is one I just love.

DSCF9161

The salmon pink flower is a vintage brooch I was lucky to find and the sheer pink underneath it is some kind of gauzy scarf with all of those little blooms attached. I've never really seen a scarf like this before, and I loved it right away, and for only $3, I think it was quite a bargain too!

DSCF9163

All of these flowers (and more) came off of one ugly hat. My husband actually spotted this one for me and was so proud to find me a hat with lots of pretty flowers on it. What was especially great about this hat was that it had so many different kinds of flowers on it and each bloom came off like a tiny corsage.

DSCF9166

DSCF9164

Love all of the pretty stamens that came off of this hat as well, and the centers of the flowers are velvet. Gotta love that.

DSCF9162

Here they are all piled into that vintage basket, and you can see of glimpse of the silk lining here too.

DSCF9182

One last hat was a recent find at my friend Kim's wonderful local shop, Cave Creek Antiques in Sweetwater, TN. This hat is really too pretty to to take apart.

DSCF9183

But those flowers really are lovely, aren't they? It's so funny how so many of us adore vintage millinery, and you never really can have too much of it, can you?

Some pretty new finds

DSCF9171

I know you're waiting on my next June give away, and honestly, I had some grand plans for this week and last, but the truth of the matter is, right now my daughter is really struggling and I've had to just work on being Mom right now, and my shop owner and blog writer hats have had to be put on hold a little. So, just give me a little while longer, and we'll resume that schedule, ok? I'm not going to forget.  For today, let's just talk about pretty things. I haven't shown you any of my new pretties in a little while and I've been accumulating some!

DSCF9168

It's funny, when I find new things they go into a pile and wait to be photographed. I don't put things away until I have had a chance to take their photo so that I can show all of you. Sometimes that pile gets rather large before I get to it! Do you do this, or am I the only loon? I adore the sweet crocheted wash cloth above, don't you? The one with the tiny rose and the pink scalloped edge? I love it that some lady wanted all of her things to be lovely, even down to the lowliest wash cloth. I seem to be drawn to fabric a lot these days and I love the fabrics I found here!

DSCF9172

But more than anything, I have been drawn to vintage embroidered things, especially things that have been embroidered with a sweet southern belle.

DSCF9173

Maybe it's simply because they are so dainty and sweet, or maybe it's because I'm southern, I don't know, but I'm just smitten with them.

DSCF9174

I've been buying a lot of them, and if they are doubled, or there are 2 of them, I buy them for sure. This way, I can share them with my Mom.

DSCF9175

And I posted all of these today hoping to entice my Mom into coming and having a much needed crafting slumber party. So Mom, I have doulbes of all of these except the first one. :0) Don't you want to come play?

Thanks for being patient with me. I'll be back to our June celebrations very soon. I promise!

A tiny bit of creativity...

DSCF9116

Other than the bags I made for my pattern girls pins, I didn't have time to be very creative this week! I wish I had more time, but I did grab a few minutes to make some tags using some of my favorite paper doll dress images. I like how they turned out even if they are simple, and honestly just getting to play with paint and glue for a little bit, always makes me happy.

DSCF9119

Some of the tags I made were packed up into this Sampler and shipped off today. Lots of vintage goodness packed into that little box! I hope she enjoys it, I always love putting them together.

So, tutorials will have to wait for next week, but to hold you over here are a couple of vintage images you might like to use in your creativity. Just enlarge, and right click to save to your computer.

I've been working on a little project for the shop I thought I would share with you! You all know how much I love vintage pattern girls, right? Well I designed these little buttons from my collection of them! I am just smitten with how they turned out!

DSCF9086

I loved them so much I wanted to create special packaging for them so I created these darling little muslin bags and covered them in the sweetest vintage flocked fabric. Love how they turned out too!

DSCF9083

DSCF9084

I divided them into two different sets and they will be available right here. They go really well with our vintage pattern girl collage packs too!
